Chinese use oil eating bacteria for clean up

Off the coast of China, Dalian City, over 23 tons of oil eating bacteria are being poured in to the water to clean up the spill. This is happening four days after pipelines exploded near one of China’s major oil reserve bases. This is the first time that China has made major use of bio-technology to solve an environmental pollution issue. Read more…

Technology is killing bees

From 1972 to 2006 there was a remarkable reduction in the number of  honeybees in the US. Honeybees play a very important part in our ecosystems. If we loose our bee population, it will be disastrous to the economy and ultimately to us. Many fruits and vegetables such as almonds, apples, avocados, blueberries, cantaloupes, cherries, cranberries, cucumbers, sunflowers, watermelon and many other crops rely on bees for pollination. The world’s oil supply

Have you ever ask yourself what will happen when we run out of oil? Everything that consumes energy including yourself is oil dependent. You wake up in the morning, you eat breakfast, take a shower, brush your teeth, get dressed, hop in your car (or take the bus, cab or whatever means of transportation), arrive at work, take the elevator, step into the office, power up the computer to start your day at work. Everything I just mention is powered by oil. Your daily activities is oil dependent. Even the Prius you drive is powered by oil. (The electric charge for the car is generated from oil!) Read more…

Oil leak is more than what BP estimated

It’s unbelievable  that till this day BP hasn’t contain the oil leak.  In early days of the leakage, BP reported that 5,000 barrels are being poured into the Gulf each day. Scientists have a estimated that up to 40,000 barrels is being released into the Gulf.  The leakage is getting worse by the week. I just don’t get it why nothing is being done about this! Read more…

Japanese are slaughtering dolphins now

Because of the Academy awards, I decided to watch all of the nominated films. “The Cove” is also one of the nominated documentaries and honestly I had no idea what it was about. I started watching it and seeing all the fish they were killing in the beginning, the first country I thought of was Japan.(The film was in black & white) And it turned out to be Japan! There is seriously something wrong with some the people in this country. And the government doesn’t do nothing about it! Read more…

Plastic Island in the Pacific Ocean

Not too far North from the island of Hawaii, there is a large patch of plastic garbage. The patch is estimated to be twice the size of France. The patch is referred to as “The Great Pacific Garbage Patch” and has been also described as the “Plastic Patch Vortex”. The patch is characterized by exceptionally high concentrations of suspended plastic, chemical sludge, and other debris that have been trapped by the currents of the North Pacific Ocean. Read more…
