Rich Russian Passengers Bought Places in Lifeboats

There was a time when women and children had priority in life threatening situations. Apparently those days are over, especially on the Costa Concordia. According to Italian prosecutors, rich Russian passengers bought places in lifeboats in front of women, children and the disabled.

The prosecutors allege to have collected evidence from other cruisers that rich Russians paid off willing crewmembers to secure an early spot in the lifeboats as the ship listed and slowly began to sink.

Another source was a woman living on the island of Giglio; she said that as she was looking at the first lifeboats arriving to shore, she expected to see women and children but instead she saw healthy men and well-dressed women speaking Russian.

There are about 20 people still missing and o fare 13 bodies were discovered.

Costa Concordia was impressive and beautiful ship, but however the collision with it was important for the whole cruise shipping. In any case we should get our answers for the disaster with the vessel and the officers to be more careful with maneuvering and navigation.
