AUSTRALIA – A heartbroken fellow after breaking up with his girlfriend, stole 15 engagement rings to propose, but after being rejected, he voluntarily returned most of the jewelry.
Mr. Daniel Lawrence Moss (39) had his lucky day in court because instead of a 18 month jail sentence, the judge ordered for his sentence to be suspended after 6 months in jail.
The Judge explained his reason why he suspended Moss’s sentence. It was because at the time of the theft, Moss wasn’t in the right state of mind, since his girlfriend broke up with him. Also when he first appeared in court, some parts of the story wasn’t available to the court till two days after his conviction.
Apparently Moss went to the police station accompanied by a priest with most of the jewelry, thirteen thousand worth to be precise. He told the officers where the remaining of the jewelry were, but when the police went there they did not find them.
After Moss appealed his sentence, Judge Irwin sympathized with him as he took the entire series of events in consideration. He determined that Moss stole the rings because of his recent break-up with his girlfriend. After serving four months in jail, the judge immediately suspended Moss’ sentence.
