CURAÇAO – The 20-year-old Moustapha Khalesa, the man responsible for stabbing the kind and loving Doctor Kan Mei Chan 20 times which brought her short life to an end was ordered by the court a year in psychiatric care at the Capriles Kliniek on the island. He’ been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Moustapha also wounded a professor, Farrah Sayed of the Caribbean Medical University (CMU). The professor recalls to have felt a push on her shoulder and when she turned around, the young man stabbed her in her belly and her chest. “I held my bowels with my hands inside my body”, she said. And then immediately she heard Kan Mei scream. The professor is recovering but needs help with her daily activities.
The young man claims to have no recollection whatsoever of the incident. Before he came to the island, he was seeing a psychiatrist in Dubai that prescribed him medication to treat his mental condition and that he may stop using them after three months. In court Moustapha declared that without his medications, he hears voices telling him to commit suicide or to attack people.
The director of the Capriles Kliniek in Curacao declared that his clinic doesn’t have enough resources to treat these terrible cases. Apparently Moustapha’s twin brother also suffers from the same mental disorder and he has been taken in to a clinic in Canada. Also his sister and grandmother suffer from the same condition.
