Eleven people died and another 120 became ill after a communal Ramadan meal in Peking, China. Investigators believe that the vinegar was tainted with antifreeze is the cause of the unfortunate tragedy.Children as young as 6 years old were among the dead.
According to the authorities, the vinegar was put in two plastic jars that had previously been used to store antifreeze, a highly toxic substance. This incident occurred on Saturday in Xinjiang which borders Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia. The victims were Muslims who were sharing an evening meal after the daily fast observed during the holy month of Ramadan.
It s not the first time that such incident happened in China, but the authorities say that they are doing their best in educating farmers and people that lives in rural areas. This is something that a simple wash of the jars could have been prevented.
