Bangladesh – The Trade of Child Slavery

Yes! You have read it right, child slavery. In Bangladesh a ring of child slavery organization have been finally identified. A 7 year old boy who was mutilated is responsible for bringing down most of the people belonging to this criminal organization.

What this group does is astonishing; they snatch kids from the streets. They don’t even care whether they have a family or not they just grab them, the thinner the better. After they snatch these kids up (usually ages 5 to 10), they put them in cages and starve them for about a week. When the children are thin as an underfed kid, they put them on the streets to beg for money. People will see these kids thin, underfed and will feel sorry for them so they will give them money.

The ring has their own people looking after these kids when they are begging in the streets. As soon as a child gets paid, they will grab the money from them. It has been estimated that these children earn an average of $8 a day. Those who handle the kids on the street earn $3 dollars and the remaining $5 will go to the ring leaders.

If a child wouldn’t comply, they will cut him badly and leave him bleeding and dying in the street. Regarding the surviving boy who helped police identify the ring members, they cut his neck, chest and his limbs leaving them scarred. As if it were enough, they cut the poor boy’s penis off.

Those who were arrested confessed about their crimes and also gave the names of the other ring members and the locations where the children were held. In my twenty plus years of living, it still amazes me what people do to each other. I’ve come to learn to expect anything and everything. People can be some sick twisted bag of garbage sometimes. What I’m frightened of is that “sometimes” will change and become “most times”.

The job pays well however it gets quite tiresome sometimes. I discovered two years ago that I have some kind of passion for writing so in 2010 I started this blog in hope that people will share a piece of their mind.

Documentary – “The Dark Side of Chocolate” reveals the fact behind the sweet chocolates we have very easily without thinking about the actual thing. Children eat chocolates every day of the year. They enjoy the delicious taste of cocoa, which originated in Africa. But behind the production of their delicious treats, there is another taste altogether: the taste of child abusers and child slavery. This program brings the chocolate makers to book, and confront them with visual evidence. It also reveals the conditions under which the apparently innocuous chocolate bar is produced, and thereafter follow the coco beans’ route from the plantation to the chocolate bar in Germany, all with the consumer oblivious to the full story behind what their chocolate bar actually contains.
