White foreigners for rent
Chinese companies are renting Caucasian foreigners to pose as their investors, shareholders or workers in order to gain potential new clients’ trust. Chinese companies are willing to pay high prices for the face of the foreigners. According to the Chinese, “Face is more important than life itself.”Some people like it and others don’t. If you approach a Chinese company, you expect to see Chinese people. Some think that a company in China that can afford to hire foreigners, must have a lot of money. But why? There are billions of Chinese people to hire, to the Chinese it’s offensive to “hire” foreigners because to them it feels like they are incapable to the work even though it’s not real. I spoke to Lin Huang a local woman living in Shanghai. She is one of the many Chinese protesting against the companies that put “White” faces to represent a Chinese company. According to Lin, they pay these actors more money than most of the population earn in two months.
